MTHATHA – Zola “Bishop” Yolelo, national chairperson of SANTACO, was among six men killed in a police operation on the R61 between Mthatha and Ngcobo.
Police say the shootout occurred during an intelligence-driven operation targeting suspects linked to extortion; gunfire began after the suspects allegedly opened fire.
SANTACO’s national chairperson, was also its provincial leader in the Eastern Cape.
According to SANTACO Spokesperson Mmatshikhidi the organization has received official notice of Yolelo’s death.
Phala said Santaco is saddened by the passing of Yolelo and there will be no further interviews as investigations continue.
