Leadership changes announced at Menlyn’s AGM

Limpopo: The Menlyn Taxi Association (MTA) recently re-elected William Mahlangu as chairperson during its Annual General Meeting in Bela Bela.

Outgoing secretary and current TOPICA executive Kenny Mathibela told TaxiWorld that the conference gave members a chance to review the outgoing committee’s progress.

Mathibela stated, “The AGM was conducted efficiently and proved successful not only due to the election of new leadership, but also because members were provided with comprehensive reports on the association’s performance under the previous administration.”

Mathibela says that, as required by the association’s Constitution, elections are held every four years.

He says, “Holding elections every four years, as outlined in our association’s constitution, allows members to choose leaders they trust to guide the association effectively.”

He said that members choose leaders based on loyalty, commitment, dedication, and leadership skills, not friendship, regardless of gender.

Mathibela says that women in the association can run for any position, noting the group’s democratic nature and previous female executive members. “They were elected for their leadership and suitability,” he said.

He added that the association chose “continuity” with a mix of returning and new members to advance the organisation.

Mathibela confirmed that no women were elected to the new executive, but there is a chance to coopt a member, ideally a female operator.

“We wish the elected officials good luck and give them our full support during their term, hoping they act in the members’ best interests,” Mathibela said.
