Mlalazi praises policy conference for its success and encouraged taxi industry to embrace change to remain competitive

Alpheus Mlalazi, Secretary General of the National Taxi Alliance (NTA), emphasized the need for taxi operators to implement corporate practices to maximize profitability in the rapidly changing transport sector. “We must embrace change to ensure the success of our enterprises,” he stated.

Mlalazi delivered his remarks at the NTA national policy and
business conference, which took place from March 24–27 at the Marine Garden Court Hotel in Durban.

According to the official conference report, the NTA represents 136 taxi associations affiliated with central bodies and regional groups nationwide.

During the three-day event, delegates were organised into five commissions, each addressing critical topics such as policy reforms, business innovation, operations, safety, enterprise development, and industry challenges.

Mlalazi further explained that the NTA constitution requires amendments to reflect the organisation’s objectives more accurately. “The delegates engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding the constitution, aiming to ensure it meets the needs of
the organisation rather than drafting a completely new document. For instance, promoting equality was identified as a key area for revision,” he noted.

He also indicated that policy declarations adopted at the conference will be circulated among NTA associations to guide implementation.

Francis Masitsa, President of the NTA, extended his appreciation to sponsors, business experts, and participants for their valuable contributions and active engagement in robust policy debates.
